KRISMI IS COMING TO CAVO THIS OCTOBER
Ahead of her CAVO Dubai appearance this October 24th, Mixmag UAE catches up with KRISMI to talk about her sound, musical influences, life behind the decks and what to expect from her upcoming set.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m KRISMI, a DJ , singer and producer from Ukraine. Music has always been a big part of my life, but for me, it has never been just about making or playing music. It’s a way of expressing what I feel, experiencing emotions, and turning them into something that other people can connect with. I’m very driven by emotion and energy, and I think that’s what naturally comes through in both my music and my performances. I’m constantly evolving, exploring new sounds and trying to create moments that people can actually feel.
How would you describe your sound and artistic identity right now?
Right now, I wouldn’t want to define my sound by just one genre. I’m more interested in finding something that really moves me - whether that comes from melodic house, progressive, melodic techno or something more unexpected. For me, it’s not so much about the label, but about the feeling, the atmosphere and the emotion behind the music. I think that freedom to explore different sounds is an important part of my artistic identity right now.
What inspired you to start your journey as a DJ and producer?
I think it all started with one of the first clubs I ever visited. I remember seeing a female DJ on stage, completely immersed in the music, and I was fascinated by the atmosphere she was creating around her. There was something almost magical about that moment the music, the lights, the stage, her energy, and the way she connected with the crowd.I couldn’t really explain what that feeling was at the time, but I could feel that there was something powerful about being the person behind the music and creating that kind of connection. I remember thinking how incredible it would be to become that person - someone who can charge a room with energy, make people feel something and create a moment they will remember. That was when I realized that this was the world I wanted to be part of.
What’s your approach when creating a new track?
I usually take a few days, sometimes even a week, to slow down and reconnect with myself. Then I start writing. It usually starts with a feeling, a mood or a certain image in my mind. A lot of that inspiration comes from touring and from the energy I experience during my shows. When a performance has an incredible response from the crowd, I often come home carrying those emotions with me, and they naturally make me want to create something new. Then the idea starts to take shape often through a vocal or a vocal idea, followed by the beat and bass. From there, I build the atmosphere around it and let the track develop naturally. I don’t like to force the creative process; I prefer to follow the feeling and see where it takes me.
Who are some artists that have influenced your sound?
There are quite a few artists whose music I really connect with, especially Agents Of Time, Cassian, KREAM, Stylo and Colyn. I’m drawn to artists who create a strong atmosphere and emotional depth while still keeping a powerful groove. I love music that can feel both sophisticated and energetic, and I think these artists represent different sides of what inspires me and what I’m naturally drawn to as an artist.
What has been a standout moment in your career so far?
One of the most meaningful moments in my career was when I decided to close my previous project and start a new chapter as KRISMI. It felt like taking a risk, but also like finally giving myself the freedom to show a different side of who I am as an artist.
One of the first important steps was releasing my collaboration “Without You” with Korolova on Black Hole Recordings. After that release, I started to feel a different kind of attention towards my music and towards me as an artist, including my vocal side. It was a very important moment because I felt that people were beginning to connect with what I was creating, and it gave me a strong feeling that I was moving in the right direction. Looking back, that transition and the work I’ve done with Black Hole have been a defining part of my journey as KRISMI.
What’s next for Krismi any upcoming releases or goals?
There’s a lot of exciting music coming, and I’m really focused on evolving the KRISMI sound while staying true to my identity. I’m working on new releases and collaborations that explore deeper, more emotional melodies with powerful energy.
My goal is to keep pushing boundaries creatively, bring my music to new audiences around the world, and play more shows and festivals internationally. I want every release to tell a story and every performance to create a real connection with the crowd.
This is just the beginning of a new chapter for KRISMI, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next.
Are you looking forward to playing in the UAE, have you been here before?
Absolutely. I’ve been to the UAE before with my previous project, so I already have a special connection with the region. This time, though, it feels different because it’s my first time coming here as KRISMI, which makes it even more exciting for me.
I really love the energy of the UAE, the atmosphere, the people and the whole lifestyle here. I’ll actually be returning again this month, so I’m very happy to be coming back and to continue building this connection with the region through my new project.
