DAFT PUNK SHARE NEW ‘HUMAN AFTER ALL’ VISUAL ON FIFTH ANNIVERSARY SPLIT

The French electronic icons, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo shared the new official music video on February 22, marking exactly five years since they confirmed their breakup in 2021. The release revisits the title track from their third studio album Human After All, originally issued in 2005, and arrives as part of ongoing celebrations of the group’s catalogue and cultural impact.

Rather than brand-new audio, the project reimagines existing material through visual storytelling. The video is constructed using footage from Electroma, Daft Punk’s avant-garde sci-fi film first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, with editing by long-time collaborator and creative director Cédric Hervet.

The film itself follows two robotic protagonists as they travel through a surreal Californian landscape in search of humanity, ultimately encountering a town filled with figures who mirror their appearance. Notably, Electroma originally featured no Daft Punk music, instead incorporating tracks from artists including Brian Eno and Curtis Mayfield making the pairing of its visuals with Human After All a newly constructed artistic crossover.

The new release is the latest in a series of post-split creative outputs from the duo. While Daft Punk officially disbanded in 2021, their catalogue continues to be revisited through anniversary editions, visual releases and special projects celebrating their influence on electronic music and visual culture.

Beyond archival releases, individual members have also remained active. Bangalter returned to DJ'ing in recent months for a rare live appearance in Paris, his first in more than a decade, further signalling that while Daft Punk as a project may be over, the creative energy surrounding the duo remains very much alive.

Five years on from their farewell, the release of the Human After All visual serves less as a comeback and more as a reminder: even in silence, Daft Punk’s influence continues to shape electronic music and culture worldwide.
