GOOGLE GIVES GEMINI THE POWER TO CREATE AI-GENERATED MUSIC

Google has taken another step into the future of music creation, giving its Gemini platform the ability to generate original AI-made tracks directly within the app.

The new feature, powered by Google DeepMind’s latest music model Lyria 3, allows users to create custom soundtracks using simple prompts. By describing a mood, genre, idea or even uploading an image or video, Gemini can generate a fully formed 30-second track complete with instrumentals, vocals and lyrics.

Designed as a creative tool for everyday users rather than professional producers, the feature aims to lower the barrier to music creation by removing the need for traditional production software or technical knowledge. Users can simply describe what they want to hear (from a specific genre to a feeling or moment) and the AI will build a structured, shareable piece of music within seconds.

The music generation capability is now integrated directly into the Gemini app and is rolling out globally for users aged 18 and over, with support across multiple languages. As well as generating audio, Gemini can also create matching cover art using AI, making it easier for users to share their tracks across platforms.

Google has positioned the tool as a new form of creative self-expression, enabling people to turn everyday ideas, personal memories or visual inspiration into sound. From lo-fi beats and pop hooks to experimental instrumentals, the system is designed to handle a wide range of genres and styles, offering a glimpse into how AI could reshape music creation and discovery in the years ahead.

However, as with many AI-driven creative tools, the launch also raises ongoing questions around copyright, authorship and the role of artificial intelligence within the music industry. While Google says safeguards are in place to prevent direct imitation of existing artists and ensure transparency around AI-generated content, the wider conversation around ethics and ownership continues to evolve alongside the technology.

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in creative workflows, Gemini’s new music-making capability signals a shift toward a future where anyone can generate a soundtrack on demand whether for fun, content creation or experimentation and all from a simple prompt.
