DEADMAU5 & MAU5TRAP RECORDS LABEL ACQUIRED FOR $55 MILLION

Founded in 2015, Create Music Group functions as a record label, distribution service, and entertainment network. The company currently drives over 30 billion music streams each month.

The acquisition includes a collection of over 4,000 tracks and also marks the launch of a collaborative venture aimed at releasing new music from deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, as well as future projects from mau5trap, the label known for working with artists such as Skrillex, REZZ, and i_o.

Jonathan Strauss, co-founder and CEO of Create Music Group, shared his thoughts on the partnership:

“When deadmau5 put on that helmet, he didn’t just create a brand, he ignited a movement. His artistry reshaped electronic music, breaking boundaries and transforming the industry.

“Now, as caretakers of deadmau5 and mau5trap’s iconic catalog, we take on the responsibility of preserving a legacy that forever altered the music landscape. Joel’s influence extends beyond music, his expertise spans gaming and technology, inspiring an entire generation to think bigger. This isn’t just a business deal, it’s a commitment.”

This deal continues a growing trend in the music industry, where major artists, including Stevie Nicks, Shakira, and Justin Bieber, have sold the rights to their catalogs in recent years.
