ÚCHÈ: THE DUBAI-BORN FASHION LABEL TURNING HERITAGE INTO WEARABLE IDEAS
Blending Nigerian and Igbo heritage with the energy of contemporary Dubai, ÚCHÈ is building an international identity around individuality, unconventional design and fashion made to be collected
Dubai-born fashion label ÚCHÈ is built around a simple idea: clothing should give people the freedom to express who they are, rather than dictate who they should be.
Founded in Dubai in 2019, ÚCHÈ takes its name from the Igbo word for “ideas”, reflecting a brand rooted in imagination, individuality and challenging convention. Its identity brings together Nigerian and Igbo heritage with the energy of contemporary Dubai, creating pieces that deliberately sit outside traditional fashion categories.
Rather than reproducing traditional references literally, ÚCHÈ takes familiar materials and cultural details and places them into unexpected contexts.
Cowries, denim, sequins, feathers, crystals and rich textures appear alongside unconventional silhouettes, creating pieces that feel simultaneously familiar and new. The result is a distinctive aesthetic that is expressive, tactile and often androgynous.
The brand designs for both men and women, focusing on collectible pieces for people who dress with intention. Its approach also moves away from a one-size-fits-all model through made-to-order production, size inclusivity and complimentary made-to-measure and customisation services. Rather than asking the wearer to conform to the garment, ÚCHÈ aims to adapt its clothing to the individual.
Since launching, ÚCHÈ has steadily expanded beyond Dubai. In 2022, the label was highlighted by TECOM Group through in5 Innovation Centers as one of seven Dubai-born fashion labels to watch, recognised for its bold approach and distinctive aesthetic
The brand has since been featured by publications including L’Officiel, Grazia, Cosmopolitan, ELLE and Emirates Woman. In 2025, it was selected by CANEX/Afreximbank to showcase at TRANOÏ Paris Fashion Week, becoming one of just 12 brands chosen from more than 800 applicants worldwide.
That international expansion continued in 2026 with a launch at Nordstrom in the United States, introducing the Dubai-founded label to a wider global audience.
Behind the brand is Uche Joy Orah, whose route into fashion was anything but conventional.
Born in Nigeria, Orah originally pursued nursing, before her journey took her through Accra and Nairobi and eventually to Dubai, where she developed a career in sales and business operations. But her interest in making things began much earlier: as a child, she would sit beside her mother’s old Singer sewing machine, watching fabric transform beneath the needle.
For Orah, ÚCHÈ is an expression of her journey, heritage and imagination, but its purpose extends beyond clothing. Through the ÚCHÈ Foundation, she aims to create access to opportunities and support communities connected to her heritage. At its core, the brand is about turning ideas into something tangible and meaningful while encouraging people to trust their instincts, own their journey and dress with intention.
From a childhood spent watching her mother sew to building a Dubai label now reaching an international audience, ÚCHÈ’s story is ultimately one of following an unexpected path — and creating something entirely your own along the way.
